Carson City Brewery Update

On October 20, 2022, the Carson City Board of Supervisors (the “Board”) amended the Carson City Municipal Code (the “Code”) to allow breweries with a tasting room as a conditional use within the Tourist Commercial zoning district. The Board recognized the growing popularity of microbreweries and brew pubs in Nevada as opposed to large scale industrial breweries, and found that these microbreweries will enhance the Tourist Commercial zoning district.

While there was some discussion of amending the Code to change breweries to an allowed use within the Tourist Commercial District, the Board did not want to open it up to large commercial breweries. The Board indicated that the case-by-case basis of obtaining a special use permit allows more flexibility than a rigid size requirement placed in the Code.
